About UAB MSTP

UAB offers an NIH-funded Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP), a combined MD/PhD program designed to prepare students for careers that combine laboratory investigation of disease mechanisms with the practice and teaching of clinical medicine in an academic setting.

UAB is consistently among the top 25 institutions nationally for NIH research funding. It was cited among the top 10 for faculty productivity in the biomedical sciences by the Chronicles of Higher Education and the top 5 Best Places to Work in Academia by The Scientist. UAB also ranks #3 in the nation for racial and social inclusiveness by the Princeton Review.
